Q: Do I need a website for my South Jersey based business, or is a social media page enough?
We get some variation of this question at least once per week - and while there are many folks who will give you a different answer, the truth is, for many reasons, every business ought to have your own dedicated website that "lives" outside of your social media presence. (be that on Facebook, Instagram, X, Tik Tok, etc)
The reasons why exceed the scope of this particular answer - but suffice it to say - you want to build your brand, on your own land. (a mantra I've learned the hard way, as have many others, after having a social media page or profile get hacked, go down for reasons that are never explained, suffer some sort of algorithmic change in the amount of "reach" or engagement you get from your audience on TEHIR platform, etc. Your website - as a business owner - is also an ASSET that is akin to owning the house you live in - rather than renting from a landlord that can pull the rug out from under you - if their situation or circumstances change.
(e.g. - if you sell your restaurant - or your real estate company - or your therapy practice - or your small independent business of any type down the road - you can't "technically" sell your social media handles or profiles or url's, as they are really the property of the platforms themselves)
So for those of you who have asked - here is a tiny list of some of the web design companies we've found in south jersey that seem to have good reviews, and work I like and appreciate. (note - as of this writing in November 2024 - we don't know any of these folks personally, nor have any relationship with any of them - and can only base our opinions on what others have said or recommended - so do your own research, but feel free to start below! 😺
